Toddler Room

Description:
Ages
2 years to 3 years.

The Toddler Program is designed to meet the expanding needs of our young learners. Our basic goal for toddlers is to provide developmentally appropriate activities, which encourage social, emotional, and language development. Ample opportunities are given for solitary and parallel play, which leads to cooperative play. Activities are also planned to enhance large and small muscle development. Self-help skills and toilet training are a very important part of the daily program.

Toddlers experience tactile activities such as finger painting, tearing paper, and nature walks. Books, story telling, singing, dancing, dress-up, and exploring sand and water complete our very busy daily schedule. The toddlers are introduced to yoga and American Sign Language on a daily basis. The activities are all planned and designed for toddler bodies and their shorter attention spans.

Toddlers are always exploring and moving, so our toddler room is designed for active play. There is plenty of space for dumping and filling (our favorite activity). There are activity centers for the toddlers to explore which include housekeeping, art, fine motor manipulatives, book corners, sensory sinks, blocks, and sand tables. Small and gross motor movement centers make up the majority of the toddler environment. We also take into consideration a toddler's need for peace and quiet through the use of our magic carpet.
